Data Protection Officer, ECB
Barbara Eggl obtained degrees in law and economics from the University of Vienna and a degree in economics (MSc) from the London School of Economics on “Politics of the World Economy”. She holds a data protection certification from the European Institute of Public Administration.
She previously worked at the Austrian central bank, inter alia in payment systems, the foreign exchange trading division and the international division, and the ECB’s Secretariat to the decision-making bodies where she concentrated on institutional issues.
In June 2015, Barbara Eggl was appointed as the ECB’s Data Protection Officer. In her role, she advises ECB business areas, including the Single Supervisory Mechanism, on data protection related issues and monitors compliance with EU legislation applicable to the ECB. Barbara has been instrumental in raising awareness within the institution on the changes introduced by the GDPR and how to address the resulting challenges
